President’s January Message

Runners know that their activity isn’t the solitary pursuit many believe it to be. Running is social. If we didn’t believe that, we wouldn’t belong to PaceSetters. Our club is a wonderful example of creating a community of runners. Members share training tips, experiences of running or walking, whether solo or [...]

Disney’s 39.3 Mile Goofy Challenge

When I signed up to do a half marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday at Walt Disney World (WDW) in sunny Orlando Florida in mid-January, I would never have imagined that Florida would be grappling with record low temperatures. I know I will not get any sympathy from those braving single [...]

Traditions

I was grocery shopping today for Christmas Eve. I’ve added new recipes in with the old over the years, but my family always wants the traditional favorites. Tortilla rollups, deviled eggs, the cut out sugar cookies that take me 3 days from start to finish – (This recipe page got laminated)…to name a [...]

Thoughts on the 50 States & DC Quest

It’s been several weeks now since I’ve completed my quest to do a marathon in every state & Washington DC. I’d like to thank the many well-wishers… it was quite the journey.
I never considered myself an athlete growing up. In fact, my start at running was a rather backdoor approach. How did [...]

Amica Marathon, Rhode Island

What a way to finish my 58th marathon, including one in every state & the district of columbia. Certainly memorable on many levels. I feel relief to have finished this personal accomplishment. Not sure that it has fully sunk in yet and people are already asking, “What’s next?”
The 2,383 mile round trip started in the [...]

Baltimore Marathon

No matter how many marathons I do, 57 completed, it never seems to get any easier. It seemed on Saturday that I was always running “uphill” and “into the wind” all morning long.
The Baltimore Marathon, 1823 miles round trip, was my 57th marathon and 49th state. I do enjoy Saturday marathons over Sunday events. It’s [...]

Maui Marathon

My advice to anyone thinking of doing the Maui Marathon… remember the sun can be brutal being so much closer to the equator. Maui is a great vacation destination and I hated to leave “paradise”. I stayed at the Hyatt near the finish line. The marathon is a “point-to-point” starting Kahului (the main airport [...]

Labor Day Weekend means 2 Marathons

Who would of thunk that despite flying to Denver that I would put an additional 1621 miles on a rental car?
The weekend started by flying to Denver International Airport, standing in line to get a rental car (a Ford Fusion - a nice ride btw), and heading northwest to Pocatello Idaho. The Pacatello Marathon [...]

Park City Utah Marathon

This was an amazing marathon simply from the pure beauty of the mountain landscape. I made a stressless 3046 mile round trip drive through Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming (hitting all the capitols) and finally arriving in the heat of 111 degrees in Salt Lake City. Park City is best known for the 2002 Winter Olympics and [...]

50 States & DC scheduled for completion

My quest to complete a marathon in every state and Washington DC is close, so close that I have scheduled the final 6 states and paid all the registration fees. Here is my schedule:
August 22 - Park City UT
September 5 - Pocatello ID
September 7 - Colorado Springs CO
September 20 - Maui HI
October 10 - [...]
